Artist's Statement
Through a mixed-media technique of collage, drawing and painting, John Diebel
examines the relationships between people and their constructed surroundings.
Modular apartment dwelling, the vagaries of urban proximity and the eradication
of social memory through rebuilding are themes woven
throughout his collage-based mixed media pieces. Drawing upon observations
from recent history and personal experiences as a city-dweller, Diebel employs
an aesthetic derived from his long relationship with the city of Berlin,
Germany - a place perpetually coming to grips with historical, social
and moral extremes.
John Diebel lives and works in Minneapolis where he is a member of Rosalux
Gallery, an artist-owned cooperative. Please direct all enquiries to
jdiebel@mn.rr.com.
