Statement:
The fundamental figure/ground relationship in painting is central to my work.
I compare forms that separate from their surroundings to others that fuse with
their environments.
Boundaries and edges fascinate me. I merge painted shapes, lines, cuts, color,
scraped areas and built-up material in my work. Blending these elements refocuses
the boundaries, creating unexpected forms.
I leave evidence of corrections to expose old revisions made while defining the
main form in each work. This softens the boundary between the final shape and
its past manifestations, challenging the solidity, and reveals the transformation
of it through time.
