American Press Institute

Founded by newspaper publishers in 1946, the American Press Institute is the
oldest and largest center devoted solely to training and professional development
for the news industry and journalism educators. The Institute, housed in a Marcel
Breuer-designed building in Reston, Virginia, conducts more than 30 residential
seminars a year for journalists, sales, marketing and management professionals
in print, broadcast, cable and digital media companies.

BeWrite Community has since early 2000 been a writers' workshop. It now spans
six continents and includes several hundred creators. BeWrite Community is non-commercial
and offers peer proof reading, volunteer editing, some professional editorial
backup and advice, and online posting of accepted work.
Chicago Manual of Style

What would become The Chicago Manual of Style began in the 1890s as a single
sheet of typographic fundamentals, prepared by a proofreader at the University
of Chicago Press as a guide for the University community. That sheet grew into
a pamphlet, and the pamphlet grew into a book—the first edition of the
Manual of Style, published in 1906. Nearly a century later the Manual is in use
in homes and offices around the world.

The World Press Institute is a private, nonprofit organization supported by a
wide range of foundations, local and national media, multinational U.S. corporations,
and individuals from all over the world.
In addition to financial contributions, WPI receives thousands of hours of support
from host families, Macalester faculty who lecture our fellows about U.S. history
and other topics, corporations and citizens around the country who allow themselves
and their employees to be interviewed, and others who volunteer their time, expertise,
and friendship to our international journalists.
